This Privacy Policy explains how Before Signing, operated by an individual developer based in China, handles limited personal information in connection with the Before Signing website, licensing service, and macOS desktop app. Paddle acts as merchant of record for purchases. Local-first contract processing

Before Signing is a macOS desktop app. Contract files are processed on your own Mac, and the app is designed so contract documents are not uploaded to our servers.

We do not provide a contract upload, storage, or document-hosting service. You should not send confidential contracts to support unless we specifically request a redacted sample for troubleshooting.

Redaction and local workflow data remain on your device, subject to the choices and permissions you configure in the app and in macOS.

AI model providers you choose

If you add your own AI model API key, AI review requests are sent directly from your computer to the provider you choose. We are not the intermediary for those requests and do not receive their contents.

The model provider may process prompts, contract excerpts, usage metadata, and billing information under its own terms and privacy policy. Model usage, limits, and fees are your responsibility.

Payments, subscriptions, and licensing data

Paddle acts as merchant of record for purchases. Paddle handles payment processing, applicable taxes, invoices, receipts, subscription management, cancellations, and refund processing under Paddle's own terms and privacy notices.

We do not receive full payment card numbers. For licensing and support, Paddle may provide us with limited information such as checkout email, subscription ID, selected plan, subscription status, and current billing-period dates.

We use that information to issue and refresh Ed25519-signed Before Signing license keys and entitlement tokens, confirm subscription status, resend license emails, respond to support requests, and maintain security logs.

License emails are sent through Resend. When the app refreshes entitlement, our licensing service checks Paddle for subscription status before issuing a refreshed token.

Website and support data

The website does not require an account or password. It stores only your theme preference in browser localStorage so the site can remember light or dark mode.

Our hosting platform may keep routine security and server logs, including IP address, user agent, request time, and rate-limiting information for abuse prevention and service reliability.

If you email us, we process the information you provide, such as your email address, message content, Paddle checkout email, subscription ID, and any diagnostic details you choose to include.

How we use and retain information

We use personal information only to operate the website and licensing service, deliver license emails, provide support, prevent abuse, comply with legal or accounting obligations, and improve reliability.

We keep licensing and support records only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes, unless a longer period is required for legal, tax, accounting, dispute, or security reasons.

We do not sell personal data.

Processors and international transfers

We use third-party processors and infrastructure providers, including Paddle, Resend, and our hosting or CDN provider. These providers may process information in countries other than your own.

Paddle, Resend, hosting providers, and your chosen AI model provider each operate under their own legal terms and safeguards. You should review those terms before using them with confidential material.

Your requests and choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of licensing data we hold by using the support contact published on this website. We may need to keep limited records where required by law, for security, or to resolve disputes.

Requests about payment details, tax invoices, payment receipts, or Paddle buyer records may need to be handled by Paddle because Paddle is the merchant of record.

You can clear the site's theme preference by clearing localStorage in your browser.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed for a small local-first software service, including server-side license signing and keeping the private signing key out of the client bundle.

No internet service is perfectly secure. Please keep your device, API keys, Paddle account, and email account protected.
